Production Designer
Department Purpose:
The Consumer Division is dedicated to supporting revenue driven by digital subscription growth, optimal print subscription levels and single copy sales in 200+ local Gannett markets and USA TODAY. This team owns and manages the media expenses and collaborates with key internal departments to manage marketing assets, meter optimization strategy, checkout experiences as well as platforms and payment options to drive conversions.
The Marketing Operations department is the growth engine that drives results and sets the rhythm for the marketing organization. Through people, planning, process and data, Marketing Operations is the backbone of the marketing team enabling the marketing division to operate efficiently while allowing the business units to focus on growth and delivering value to our customers. Job Purpose:
The Marketing Operations team is looking for a Production Designer to partner with our creative team in the scaling of multi-channel campaigns across 200+ brands. The ideal individual is someone who appreciates and thrives on the mechanical design/production process, and is excited about expanding the responsibility set of the existing team to support business needs. This person is detail oriented, can juggle multiple jobs simultaneously and exudes the ability to both work independently and take direction from others while maintaining brand consistency.
The Production Designer will be part of larger team that is responsible for the production of marketing collateral across digital channels, as well as print, and should understand best practices across all channels. They should advocate to become experts in brand guidelines, file delivery and workflow, and will work with Marketing Operations partners on creating efficiencies in ways of working. This person will be a team player, supporting in the production of day to days tasks. No ask should be too big or too small.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner closely with the creative team and production leads to scale campaign development and localization across 200+ publications
- Translate existing creative into multiple versions and resolve any artwork issues that arise during production.
- Works closely with our internal teams to test minor design tweaks for better performance in the market and apply learnings to refine the marketing materials.
- React to change productively and handle all other essential tasks as assigned.
- Own the quality of the deliverable in its final output, producing clean, technically accurate files.
- Complete work correctly and efficiently meeting all deadlines.
- Manage production tasks and deliverable milestones in collaborative project management tool.
Qualifications:
BFA required with 4-6 years of experience in creating and designing consumer-facing marketing assets in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will willingly share a strong portfolio of work with context and insight to the success and failure of well-designed work. Experience using Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop required. Previous experience in publishing or subscription marketing is a plus.
A successful individual in this role must be self-motivated, a strong team player yet able to work independently and as a small team on numerous concurrent projects. Ability to prioritize workload to deliver on expected timelines and show resiliency to deadline-driven stress is essential and positive energy goes a long way! Previous experience with dynamic A/B testing and optimization across both online and offline marketing channel designs is essential. Experience with a global brand and localization would be a rare find.
Ideal candidate will exhibit strong attention to detail and take an active part in Q/A-ing their own work as the Designer must always take accountability for the accuracy of their assignments. To be successful in this role, candidate must have experience multi-tasking in a deadline driven and rapidly changing environment and the ability to comprehend and interpret documents, listen attentively, and follow instructions.
